Chief Executive Officer
David Herbada
David sets the overall direction of Sonosine, where he applies his experience of overseeing and investing in technology and industrial companies worldwide. He is responsible for making major corporate decisions and managing the overall operations and resources of the company. He is also a Board Member and Director of the company.
He is a former senior investment advisor for a platform of the global investment firm KKR, a former board advisor at Altran Technologies, and a former consultant at Accenture.
David has 24-years of experience investing in and managing technology companies around the world. He started his career as a design engineer. This technical background and his entrepreneurial management style enable him to actively contribute across the areas of development at Sonosine.
David holds a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and an MBA from Universidad Europea de Madrid. He also specialised in international relations at the Universities of Leiden and Geneva and has a diploma in corporate financial strategy from INSEAD
Solutions Architect
Julian Hayball
Julian leads system’s architecture and product development of Sonosine devices. He creates the overall technical vision and provides strategic guidance in the development process. He also focuses on developing integration patterns and the best technical, quality management and IT practices for the company.
A University of Cambridge graduate, Julian is both a physicist and an engineer, and also a former Siemens Healthcare engineer with just under 25-years-experience in developing diverse medical imaging systems. This includes pioneering work in PET-CT post-processing. Julian has a background in medical image processing and reconstruction, alongside knowledge of clinical users, the hospital environment, and regulatory procedures.
He has been developing the EMA technology since 2016 and has completed a re-implementation of the system onto new platforms. He has also developed the specification for the commercial version of the system and the necessary regulatory approvals.
Head of Hardware & Quality
Charlotte Edwards
Charlotte is responsible for the development of Sonosine’s EMA technology, heading hardware, electronics, and materials engineering.
She has developed EMA hardware including transceivers, antenna coil cable assembly, experimental & testing phantoms, and continues to research and develop new ideas, the latest components, circuitry to establish a product roadmap for the next generation of hardware.
She has been instrumental in obtaining medical standards approval (including ISO 13485) and seeking associated approvals for company product development.
With a range of qualifications and experience in science and the humanities, Charlotte brings a wealth of knowledge and talent to the team. A double graduate in engineering and history of science from the University of Oxford, Charlotte also holds an MA in creative writing from City, University of London. She has been with the company since 2016.
Chief Product & Strategy Officer
Umang Gupta
Umang leads strategy, product, and engineering management at Sonosine and works with the team to develop and launch EMA technology for commercial markets.
He is a former commercial and corporate development VP for a platform of the global investment firm KKR. He has just over a decade of experience working in technology and commerce, managing complex companies in tightly controlled and regulated sectors. His areas of focus are strategy, product management, commercial, contracts management, operations, finance and administration.
He has worked in collaboration with Intel and the University of Vienna, contributing to international research in manufacturing non-carcinogenic, green, and sustainable PCB components.
Umang’s Masters dissertation was on Image Processing of thermal fluctuations in bio-membranes. He has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and a Bachelors & Masters degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Inventor & Founder
Late Professor David Edwards
David was an Engineer and Physicist who spent the past 30-years working in academia, conducting world-leading research. Before that he spent nearly 12-years in industry working on telecommunication technologies and regulatory aspects for BT.
David’s research and numerous commercial products focus on providing solutions that benefit humanity. Application areas for his inventions include radio systems, radio imaging and medical imaging. All are covered by patents and proprietary IP.
David received a number of awards for his work, including the IEE Prize for Innovation, the N.P.L. Metrology Award, the IEE Mountbatten premium (two papers), the IEEE Neal Shepherd Memorial Award and the “Automated RF & Microwave Measurement Society” (ARMMS 2006) award.
David was a former Chairman of the Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and Sub-Warden of Wadham College, Oxford. He was a founder of three start-up companies, and developed Sonosine’s patented Electro Magnetic Acoustics (EMA) technology.
